Actually, we are having the impression that you have an updatable view and you do not want to update the underlying table. In fact, not all view are updatable. Only view that satisfy certain conditions is updatable. See http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms187956.aspx on section "Updatable Views" If you view is not updatable, you can use "INSTEAD OF Triggers" to update the underlying table yourself. This also means if you do not want any update via the view, you can also use instead of trigger to block it
